Restaurants in Diani Beach

Along Diani Beach Road and in the direction of Ukunda there are many local restaurants of different kinds, whether typical local, Italian, Mexican, Japanese or mixed – there is certainly something for everyone.

As an upscale and very fancy restaurant for Kenya I can recommend you the
Ali Baba’s Cave Restaurant
recommend the The location is unique and worth seeing, the food excellent and always worth a visit for special occasions. You definitely need to make a reservation in advance. They only offer dinner with a small but nice selection of dishes.

The cave is open at the top and you can watch the moon and stars in the firmament, In case of rain a tent roof is stretched over the opening.

Camel riding

Camel riding is available anywhere along Diani Beach. (no videos, only pictures)

DHOW – Sailing in the Indian Ocean

Enjoy an excursion in one of the traditional Kenyan dhows. These boats have not changed their design for hundreds of years and are still used by local fishermen to navigate the reefs and bring in the morning catch.

Sailing trips/fishing tours with the homemade dhows can be booked at beach vendors or in resident travel agencies.

Jet Skiing / Windsurfing / Kayak / SUP

At Sand’s at Nomad Hotel, for example, you’ll find a wide selection of kayaks, SUPs, etc. for rent…..(5 minutes by car from our Villa Mongoose).

Leisure Golf Club – leisuregolfdiani.com

only 10 minutes by car from our Villa Mongoose, directly on Diani Beach Road.

Massage

You want even more relaxation? Then let yourself be pampered with a massage directly at Villa Mongoose. After making an appointment, the masseuse comes directly to our house (for a fee – about 10 – 15 €/hour).

Glass boat ride

Glass boat tours to the reefs with opportunities for snorkeling can be booked at beach vendors or resident travel agencies. A guide will accompany you during the snorkeling tour and show you the beauties of the sea. At low tide you can also see a starfish lying on the reef.

Kite

There are many kite/surf schools here right on the beach. The one who wants to check out if he enjoys kiting at all is as welcome as the expert among you.

Bushbaby – feeding

At
Stilts
, a simple tree hotel in Diani Beach, the feeding of the bushbabies takes place. They are nocturnal animals, so feeding starts daily between 6:30 and 7:00 pm. They eat the bananas out of your hand, because they are used to people there for years and know exactly your feeding time. Basically they are very shy. They also exist in our resort, we hear them calling at night – but we hardly ever get to see them. You should be there in time because the places are limited. Treat yourself to a cocktail until it starts, but you can also eat quite well there. The spectacle is definitely worth a visit.

Congo River

Heading towards Ukunda past all the shopping centers, at the very end of Diani Beach Road, turn right along a newly paved road that will take you to the Kongo River. When you arrive at the parking lot, you will already find the locals where you can book a canoe trip. The Congo River flows into the Indian Ocean there. For 1000 KES (8 €) you get an impressive boat trip on the Congo River and the boat guide tells you a lot about the local flora and fauna. But you can also just watch the river flow into the sea, walk towards the beach, swim and relax.

Kaya Kinondo – the sacred forest

This forest is definitely worth a trip. Just 20 minutes from the resort, you’ll find the coast’s only remaining virgin forest on coral rock. With a guide you go on a hike through the thicket and learn the extremely exciting history of this forest and dive into a completely different world. Duration about 2 hours, cost 1000 KES (about 8 €) per person.

Bora-Bora Wildlife Park

Only about 25 minutes from our resort you will find the Bora Bora Wildlife Park. Ideal if you still have small children, as this park is a kind of “zoo” where you can also stay overnight in large house tents. The park costs admission, a guide accompanies you and has exciting information about the animal and plant world for you.

Chale Island

Not far from Bora-Bora Park is Chale Island. Travel time about 25-30 minutes from the resort. The island is 600 meters from the mainland, 1.2 km long and 800 meters wide. It is partially covered by a mangrove jungle and is privately owned. You can visit the island by tractor at low tide and by boat at high tide. For an all-inclusive price you can stay there all day, swim and visit the restaurant (food is included in the all-inclusive price).

Diving / Liveaboard

Pictures follow

There are several dive centers in Diani Beach where everyone from beginners to experts can join. Diving safaris lasting several days are also offered.

Wasini Islands

Pictures follow

A worthwhile day trip to the islands with snorkeling/diving where the underwater world is still in order. Dolphins can also often be seen here, usually in the morning. There are different providers with different focuses. A comparison is worthwhile.

Visit of a Massai village

Some safari tours also offer to visit a Maasai village. There you will get a guided tour and learn a lot about the Maasai tribe. If you want to please the kids there, candy, pencils, etc. are very high on the list.

Safari

..more pictures to follow

Whether Shimba Hills, as a day tour, about 45 km away from our resort, or Tsavo East/West/Taiti Hills, as a multi-day safari, about 150 km away – each safari has its own personal charm and the “Big 5” are of course represented there. There are well-guided tours through the local travel agencies but also private operators.

The famous Amboseli National Park and Massai Mara are other national parks that are very popular in Kenya. However, the best way to reach them from Diani Beach is by national airplane departing from Ukunda, about 10 minutes drive from our resort. If you are interested, please contact us, we will be happy to help you with your further planning.

Medical care

“and – good to know”……that you can also get good medical care in Diani Beach should the need arise.

Diani Beach Hospital – https://dianibeachhospital.com/

Not far from the Leisure Golf Club is the Diani Beach Hospital, which is privately run and has a very good reputation. Also only about 10 minutes by car from our Villa Mongoose directly on Diani Beach Road.

We can also recommend good resident doctors if needed, of course. Maurice, our manager, is again the perfect contact person.
